The Erba Salata 2021 from Daniela and Andrea of Colle Florido has recently hit our list.
Sourced from forty-year-old Montepulciano d'Abruzzo vines rooted in calcareous clay slopes in Pianella, Central Abruzzo, this wine showcases the fruits of a warm vintage. The perfectly ripe bunches are carefully de-stemmed but unpressed, with the whole berries fermenting for three weeks with their skins in a large barrel. After sixteen months, the wine is bottled with no addition, resulting in a splendid red with graceful scents of red blossoms, ripe citrus and wild berries. The sumptuous concentration of the palate is beautifully balanced by velvety tannins and a mineral backbone, making it a perfect match for seasonal fare.
