Daniele Portinari

As a child, Daniele spent his time in the family vineyards before becoming an apprentice to Angiolino Maule, one of the pioneers of the natural wine movement in Veneto. With this experience behind him, Daniele returned to his native land and produced his first wine under his own name in the summer of 2008.

The five hectares of vineyards are located in the small town of Alonte, on the southern side of the Colli Berici, a group of rolling lush hills with high drainage capacity. Here, calcareous sedimentary rocks have developed into soils rich in limestone and red clay. Alongside the native Garganega, Tai Bianco and Tai Rosso, Daniele farms Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Blanc, which have been cultivated here since the nineteenth century.

Recently joined by his son Giovanni, Daniele practises natural farming and winemaking, using native yeasts in the cellar and little or no added sulphites. The resulting wines reflect the knowledge he has gained over the years, while allowing the character of each vintage to shine through.
