After much anticipation, we are delighted to share the 2020 vintage from Deirdre O'Brien and Maurizio Caffer's Cascina Val Liberata.
Nestled on the picturesque hills of Basso Monferrato, within the municipality of Villamiroglio and just a stone's throw from the River Po, Val Liberata exudes a sense of remote and untouched beauty. The couple moved here in 2014, reviving the old Cascina and planting three and a half hectares of Nebbiolo, Grignolino and the rare Slarina. The vines thrive on the pale clay typical of this area, creating a biodiverse heaven with the surrounding meadows, forests, walnut groves, and vegetable cultivation.
During our recent trip to Piedmont, we spent a delightful day in the company of Deirdre and Maurizio, tasting the vibrant new vintages and chatting past and future of their project. Before indulging in some homemade Agnolotti alla Monferrina, we strolled around the Cascina, enchanted by the flourishing vegetation and the poppy blossoms adorning the rows of young vines.
The unicity of this micro-terroir, and the charm of this peaceful valley, are undoubtedly embodied in the wines.
